抑癌基因指正常细胞内存在的，能抑制细胞转化和肿瘤发生的一类基因群，当它们受到各种因子的作用失活后，细胞的生长分化失控，增加了细胞恶性转化的可能性。目前已分离克隆的抑癌基因有Rb、p53、p16、p33ING1、nm23、TIMP、KAI1、APH、MCC、APC、DCC、BRCA1等，最近被认为候选抑癌基因的有FHIT、PTEN/MMAC1/TEP1等。
